Welcome one and all, new and veterans, to ultimate week one! Thank you so much for joining us, and I'm excited to see you all! We have some important information before we get the league tosses off this Sunday, so please read through!
Ultimate Frisbee will play from 10 am to 11 am, with the largest frisbee league we've had yet. Immediately following the games, Ronkonkoma's largest kickball league will be playing, so please arrive on time to ensure maximum playing time. For those just playing frisbee, feel free to stick around and meet our kickball friends, and maybe even sub in if needed!
Games must start promptly at 10 am, so please arrive early.
Here's what to expect:
You will meet me and your teammates, warm up, go over some housekeeping discussions, and hand out shirts.
For the first timers, we highly recommend cleats (no metal spikes/studs allowed), bringing water, warming up, stretching, and asking questions. None of this is mandatory, of course, but we want you to have the most comfortable, fun, and most importantly, safe experience possible. Remember: this is a social league, so bring your game face, but no experience is necessary. We will teach you anything you need to know, but feel free to watch a few YouTube videos of the pros to get the gist of it.
You've all been assigned to your teams. Please check your locker room for your team assignment and to check out who your teammates are. In the name of fall, we went with Nightmare Before Christmas-themed names.
We will go over the rules in more detail in person, but a few basics:
- Gameplay is 6 v 6- depending on player availability per team week to week, 5 v 5 or even 4 v 4 will be considered. Whenever possible, one female player should remain on the field at all times.
- Fields are 40 yards long with 8-yard endzones.
- Games are timed: two halves of up to 25 minutes each with a 10-minute halftime.
- Each point begins with a "kick-off" or "pull" from the defending end zone to the offensive team's endzone.
- Players score points by getting the frisbee to the other team's end zone. A player can hold a frisbee for a seven-count before it is turned over. Those with the frisbee must remain stationary but are allowed to pivot.
- There is absolutely NO contact. Leave a disc worth of space between yourself and the player you're defending. NO intentional contact is acceptable.
