--------------------------------------
What is Semi Pro? Semi Pro is a monthly tournament concept that exists outside of normal league play. This concept has already been successfully implemented for Kickball and Dodgeball.
Why? Semi Pro addresses the competitive needs of players who choose to play in LI-Kick's leagues, but are surpassing the competition offered in the weekly leagues. Semi Pro will bring together LI-Kick's most advanced players for regular monthly tournaments.
How to get an Invite: Semi Pro is invite only and consists of a pool of ~30 advanced players who actively play LI-Kick or have a long history of playing LI-Kick. There is a separate Open division and Women only division. Interested players can join the waitlist to request an invite.
How Semi Pro Pickleball Works: Tournaments are doubles and played 'Indy style'. In pool play, everyone will play 6 games with randomized partners and opponents every game. The top 12 open players and top 8 women-only players will advance to a single elimination tournament. Playoff teams are formed by allowing the highest pool play finisher to pick their teammate from the available pool and so forth until teams are made. The tournament will play to award a podium.
Guest Players: If the number of players for any tournament is lower than 16 for open or 8 for women-only, then any Semi Pro player can suggest a player to compete in the tournament as a guest player.
Tournament Attendance: It is not required to attend every tournament. Guest players will be used in the case we are below the minimum needed.
How the Tournaments Connect: Each tournament will have a winning duo. The winning duo will not be allowed to partner up in the playoff portion of future tournament (except for the final tournament). Players will have individual Semi Pro ELOs which will rank them in the overall standings.
Who 'Wins' Semi Pro?: Each tournament will have a winning duo. The 6th and final tournament may have a slightly different format.
Tournaments Dates:
Location: We have a full facility rental at Robbie Wagner in Glenwood Landing (8 courts)
Price: There will be a joining fee of $40 to join Semi Pro as a confirmed player which must be paid upon accepting the invitation. There will be an additional charge of $55 to play in each Semi Pro Tournament. Guest players will need to play the tournament fee but not the joining fee.
We have paddles we can lend out, but we highly recommend you get your own paddle once you find one you are comfortable with.
All our our leagues are Ladder Style. This means every week your opponents are those who are ranked closest to you in the standings. The best players work their way up to court 1, while newer players are grouped on the lower courts. This allows for fair matchup and allows players of varying abilities to play in the same league. Leagues that are specifically 'beginner friendly' are noted under 'key details'. Players are have dreams of becoming a pickleball professional may not find our leagues competitive enough.
In 'Indy' leagues you join as an individual. Every week and game you get paired with a new partner and opponent based on your standings in the league, ensuring an even matchup. Doubles leagues are the traditional style where you join with a partner and play with them the full season.
A doubles team may carry up to 4 players on the roster. Only two players are needed. Adding a third and/or fourth player on the roster ensures you can always field a full team, even when someone is unavailable for reasons such as work, illness, or family obligations. The team price remains the same regardless of the number of players and having more teammates can reduce the per-person cost. Teams play a minimum of 5 games per night and additional players can take turns, giving everyone a chance to play.
Your signup and teammate info will be visible in your locker room. We will build out your league's webpage with schedules and teams. You'll receive 3 pre-season emails from us. The first for all LI-Kick players, the second specific to your sport and a few days before your league begins, you'll receive an email from your league director with information specific to your league. You can always emails us at info@li-kick.com with any questions.
ELO is a rating that reflects a player's skill relative to other players in the league. When you beat a good player, your ELO rating goes up, however when you suffer an upset, your ELO rating goes down. Our leagues use ELO as it continually adjusts to match a player's evolving skill level and provides a reliable metric for matchmaking and rankings. Players from previous seasons have their ELO carry over while new players will be assigned an 'initial ELO' to start their season.
Signing up solo is a great way to meet new people. We'll collect some basic information during registration and try our best to place you on a team with players like you.
